The good news: The blog Feminist Philosophers created this really succinct faux conversation between a police officer and a mugging victim to illustrate the ridiculous line of questioning that some rape and sexual assault victims face:
Obviously, this is only a parallel for the specific instance of stranger rape in a public place. It’s not as easy to map onto date rape, marital rape, or all of the other less culturally recognized forms of rape. BUT, it’s certainly underscores the ridiculosity of incorporating past behavior, reputation, and wardrobe into the investigation of a crime.
The bad news: Feminist Philosphers had to close the comments because “horrendous” comments that are offensive and triggering for rape survivors. SIGH.
